The Ohana

They say that the family that plays together stays together. No truer phrase could be said about the Toma and Kuwaye Ohana. For nearly 30 years, the triennial reunions have been something that is looked to for uniting the offspring of the Sadoyama sisters.

With four generations of representation, these gatherings have allowed traditions to evolve. It’s amazing to think that this family has it’s own bon odori.

During the 2009 reunion, we saw the youngest generation learn how to make leis, snorkel and hula, while the first generation shared stories of their time growing up in Hawaii and bonding as family. Meanwhile the generations mixed while playing golf, relaxing and eating.

The 2018 reunion has a lot to live up to, but you can be sure that when the Kuwaye and Toma families meet again that good times will be had, memories be made and traditions passed. It’s the legacy that has been left and continues to grow.
